"The Floating City", "La Dominante", "City of Water", "City of Bridges". With such befitting names there's a mystique in the streets of Venice, Italy. Amid the maze of canals, historic architecture, and romantic Gondola rides, Matthias wanted to capture another name as well, "The City of Masks". 

Masks are a part of Venetian history, dating back as early as the 12th century following a military victory in 1162. The tradition of masks started when Venetians would hold celebrations and parties from December 26th until the start of Lent and wear elaborate masks to conceal their identity, class and licentious behavior.
